Evelyn Jean Hilden passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023, at the age of 88. She was born on September 10, 1934, in Taft, California to Harry and Marguerite Krossa. She eloped and married Richard Hilden on December 18, 1954, who proceeded her in death in 2015.

She was raised in Vacaville, California with her two brothers Kenneth and Lester Krossa. She graduated from Vacaville High School in 1952. Evelyn continued her education at secretarial college and later at Allen Hancock College in Santa Maria, California. Moving to Lompoc in 1964. She began her career at Allen Hancock College in 1975 working in the typing lab and as technology changed worked in the computer lab until her retirement in 2002.

Evelyn enjoyed people. Always willing to help whomever she met. Her passions were travel, family, the beach; snorkeling, and collecting shells. Evelyn was a long-time 4H leader and had many fond memories of the trips she had with the 4H kids. She was an active docent at La Purisima Mission, spending many hours in the gardens, participated in water aerobics, and really enjoyed playing cards with the monthly card group.

Evelyn is survived by her two sons; Mark and wife Jane of Los Osos; Dana and companion Sylvia Walters of Eugene, Oregon; her grandsons Christopher and Patrick of Los Osos; her granddaughter Ginelle Garrity and great-grandson Rebel of Springfield, Oregon; and sister-in-law Joie Krossa of Cayucos; and her many nieces and nephews and their families.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 24, 2023, at 11:00 at the Hilton Garden Inn at 1201 N. H St. Lompoc. CA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Allen Hancock Foundation Business Major Scholarship Fund: PO Box 5170 Santa Maria, CA 93454, or to the charity of your choice.
