Felix Lopez Ortega of Lompoc died Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at the age of 86.
Felix was born January 27, 1927, in Tabasco, Zacatecas, Mexico to Catarino and Guadalupe Ortega. He came to the United States as a bracero in 1955 and settled in Lompoc. He worked for local flower seed farms and retired after 19 years of work for the Southern Pacific Rail Road.
Felix enjoyed gardening, walking, playing dominos and an occasional Cazadores. He was a devoted member of the La Purisima Catholic Church.
Felix is survived by his daughter Maria Melendrez of Lompoc, eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be on Friday, December 20, from 4-7pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Father Tom Cook will celebrate the mass of Christian burial on Saturday, December 21 at 8am at La Purisima Catholic Church. The interment will follow at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
