Obituary

Florinda Maes, age 85, loving mother of two, and adoring wife to husband Alfred Maes, passed away on January 9, 2023. Florinda was born in 1937 in the Philippine Islands and grew up surrounded by her large family, she had 7 other siblings and a lot of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Florinda was influenced by her family to be a loving and caring woman, always giving her time to others, and she incorporated that into her motherhood.

She met her husband Alfred at Clark Air Base in the Philippine Islands while at her job at the AAFES Exchange and they fell in love instantly and knew they both shared a love for family and decided to start their own. As a mother, she was generous, loving, and kind. She had a love for baking and cooking that she shared with everyone who knew her.  She loved big gatherings with family and friends.

Florinda and her family came to Lompoc in 1980, having transferred with the U.S. Air Force to Vandenberg AFB from Clark Air Base, Philippines.  She and her family have been members of the Lompoc community for 43 years.

Florinda worked as a Medical Assistant for Dr. Leo Armstrong Podiatry practice in Santa Maria, California for over 20 years.

She was devoted to the church and volunteered countless hours at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Mission Hills over many many years.

Her passions included cooking, baking, and taking care of her many plants, flowers, and fruit trees.

She will be greatly missed by her family and especially her 2 sons: Darrell Maes and Alfred J. Maes Jr. who adore her with all of their hearts.

"We know that we can't have you, but we're happy knowing that the angels have finally got you back. Goodbye to a wonderful woman and a beautiful mother."

Loved ones that will miss Florinda until they meet again are her son and daughter-in-law Darrell and Christine Maes; her son Alfred Joseph Maes Jr; her grandchildren Jordan Maes, Tim Maes, Brandon Maes, and Lisa Maes; her great-grandchildren Jordan Lee Maes Jr. and Robin Lilly Maes; and her siblings, cousins and all of their families.

A visitation for Florinda will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 11 am- 2 pm.  Her memorial mass will be held at Queen of Angles Catholic Church on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 1o am, followed by burial at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
