Obituary

Mrs. Florine Bernard passed away on Oct. 10, 2015, she was a long time resident of the Lompoc, California area. Florine was born in Sedalia, Missouri to Irving Gray and Myrtle Parker on Nov. 29th 1930. She was preceded in death by her mother; father; Husband Reginald A. Bernard (USAF Retired); daughter Sherita Gray; son Ronald E. Bernard; six sisters; and two brothers.
Flo and her Husband "Bernie" with their six children moved from Whiteman Air Force Base in Sedalia, Mo in 1958 and spent 3 years at the Zaragoza Air Force Base in Spain. As a military family they were subject to location changes as needed and were sent to Vandenberg Air Force Base in 1961. Flo was employed as a housekeeper at the base housing "Guest House" which was used for new arrivals to Vandenberg. She then was employed at the base commissary for many years working her way from the entry level cashier to head cashier. Flo was very well known and liked for her knowledge, commitment to excellence, and sunny personality.

Flo transfer over to Base Head Quarters and was employed as an accounting technician in the Accounting & Finance department until she retired in 1994 from the civil service system. Retirement did not slow her down, as she continue to volunteer her time working at the Lompoc Senior Center involved in the senior lunch program. Due to her declining health she again returned back into retirement in June 2015.

Mother Bernard was a member of True Vine Bible Fellowship where she was involved in the choir. Her many interests included bowling, camping, playing pinochle, and spending quality time with her family and friends. She had memberships in the American Legion Post 211, VFW Post 1717, Eastern Stars, and The Space Traveler Motorhome club.
Mrs. Bernard is survived by her brother Quinton U. Gray (San Pedro), daughter Regina Pannell (St. Louis, Missouri), sons Michael and Kay, Rickie, Steven, daughter-in-law Kathleen (Lompoc), son Reginald Jr. and wife Mary (Las Vegas, Nevada), son Keith (Oxnard), son Kevin and Mary Wise-Bernard (Garden Grove), son Bryan and Angel Brinson (Fresno), 29 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren. Aunt Florine also had numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews throughout the country.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at True Vine Bible Fellowship, 533 S. Avalon, Lompoc, California with the Pastor Darryl Fort officiating.
