Obituary

Frances was born April 21, 1937, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to Henry and Helen Obloy who were emigrants from Poland. The family eventually settled in Martins Ferry, Ohio.
Following high school graduation, Frances worked for the United States Air Force as a secretary at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. There she met Airman Charles Martin Eger. They were married August 18, 1957.

Their first child, Andrew Eger, was born April 7, 1964, in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1970, Frances and Charles adopted Donald and Raymond.

The Eger family settled in Lompoc, California in 1975 following Charles' retirement from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant. Frances worked for many years as a clerk accountant for the Santa Barbara School District.

After she retired, she began extensive volunteer work at the La Purisima Mission, a state historic park that maintains the only period era mission, circ. 1820, in the United States. Frances blossomed in this historic environment and contributed in excess of 11,000 hours of volunteer work. In addition to serving as the editor for the monthly mission bulletin, she also coordinated mission life days and many other community mission events.

Frances also loved to collect unicorns and elephants.

Due to failing health, Frances moved to Virginia in 2004 to live with Andrew and his family.

Frances is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Martin Eger, and her brother Henry Obloy. She is survived by her sister, Mary Ann Kinnan, her sons, and six grandchildren.

The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 17, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Queen of Angels Catholic church officiated by Monsignor John Fitzgerald. Interment will follow in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Local arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
