Francis Frank Hain Jr.
1933 - 2023
Francis Frank Hain Jr. was born August 27, 1933, in Van Nuys California and passed away June 8, 2023, after a lengthy illness.
Frank started working for Hain Trucking in Van Nuys when he was 14, and worked for the family business until he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1952. In 1955 he married the love of his life, Arlene Silva. After his service in the Air Force, Frank and Arlene moved and settled in Lompoc California where they raised their children. Frank worked for several local trucking companies (Lompoc Truck, Johns-Manville, Celite, etc.) until retiring from the Local 381 Teamsters in 1992.
Frank and Arlene's greatest pleasures were both spent indoors and outdoors. Frank loved spending time with family camping, fishing, and water skiing. Some of his favorite memories included water skiing in the lagoon at Surf Beach and camping and fishing at Lake San Antonio. One of Frank's favorite sayings was If you don't have family, you don't have sh**. In their early years they could be seen dancing every Saturday night at various local night clubs (e.g., Martins, Launching Pad, Lion's Inn, Koala Club). When not dancing, Frank loved photography and spent countless hours taking and developing pictures.
Frank also had a gift and passion for coaching baseball. During his years coaching, he managed and coached many Babe Ruth, Little League, and all-star teams; many of which resulted in championships. Everyone who had the opportunity to play for him would tell you his no-nonsense approach to teaching the game benefited them as a baseball player and as a human being.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Arlene, parents (Francis and Ruth Hain) and sisters Joanne Levenson (Hugh) and Ona Martin (Neil): Frank is survived by his 3 children, Jules Hain (Theresa), Arlene Dotzler (Jeff) and Francis Hain III (Roberta). Grandchildren Jeffrey Dotzler Jr. (Stacey), Christina Alvarez (Scott), Francis Hain VI (Kelly), Wendy Campbell (Lee), Julie Driscoll (Ryan), Corey Dotzler (Kim), Bridgette Owen (Kyle) and Wesley Hain, along with 22 great grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2023, at La Purisima Church, (Olive and I Street), Lompoc, Ca, immediately followed by a graveside service held at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at the Signorelli Ranch (2395 Sweeney Rd). At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Frank in a special way may make gifts in his memory to any of the following local baseball programs; Lompoc Little League, Lompoc Babe Ruth, or Village Hills Little League.
The family would like to especially acknowledge My Family's Residential Care Home in Santa Maria, Alexa, Mia and the Central Coast Hospice Team for the love, care and kindness they provided the past year.
