Obituary
Frank passed away peacefully Sunday morning February 28th with his children by his side.
Frank was born in Santa Monica, CA on September 1, 1932 to Frank and Grace Smith.
Frank was an Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War. As a B36 Crew Chief stationed at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, WA he met his lifelong friend, companion and love of his life, Barbara J. Smith, who recently passed in October of 2013.
Frank was one of the original pioneers of the Space launch activities at VAFB. Frank and Barbara moved to Lompoc in 1958 to support the first Thor program launch activities at then Camp Cook. Frank spent the rest of his career supporting Thor/Delta/shuttle and Titan.
He is survived by his children, Jeff and Leslie Smith of Lompoc and Cathy and Bob Stapp of Denver. His greatest joy was his grandchildren Amy Kelly, Chrissy of Littleton, CO and Tim of Patuxa River, MD., and great grandchildren, Abby, Emma, Jaida, and Dexter.
Viewing will be at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, Sunday, March 6th from 4 pm to 8 pm. Funeral will be at the Lompoc Cemetery on Monday at 11:00 am to be followed by a gathering hosted by Joe and Laverne Mulvey, lifelong friends of Frank and Barbara.
