IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frank "Paco"
Susin
April 13, 1924 – December 16, 2023
Frank "Paco" Susin of Lompoc passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the age of 99.
Frank was born on April 13, 1924, in Aso de Sobremonte, a tiny village located in the Pyrenees mountains of Spain. He was one of five children born to Francisco and Fermina Susin. As a child, he was taught the family craft of blacksmithing and running a forge. He turned those metalworking skills into a lifelong career.
Frank emigrated from Spain to the United States in 1956 and made Lompoc, California his new home. He worked as a welder at the Johns Manville Corporation for 26 years, until he retired in 1985. He then began to tend to his home and garden full-time. Frank was incredibly organized and always ensured that his family's needs were a priority. He was an intelligent, unpretentious and quiet man who always thought before he spoke.
Throughout his entire life he remained both physically and mentally active. Some of his interests included grafting fruit trees, planting flowers, growing vegetables, and maintaining a lush, green lawn. Besides working in the yard, he had a passion for making innovative tools and objects, from wrought iron staircases to sophisticated wind barriers. He also enjoyed riding his bicycle and reading books.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 52 years, Laura M. Susin and his devoted daughter Laura Susin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Spain who loved him dearly.
A church service will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 10:00 am at Queen of Angels Catholic Church, followed by interment at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
