Fred W. Butler, Jr. of Lompoc died Sunday, September 2, 2007 at the age of 87.
Fred was born January 24, 1920 to Fred and Gladys Butler in Saugus, Massachusetts. He served as a bombardier in the United States Air Force during WWII. He was shot down and held as a prisoner of war in Germany for 18 months before being liberated at the end of the war. He retired as a major after 23 years of service.
Fred enjoyed antique cars. He especially maintaining and restoring the two classic English automobiles he owned. He recently discovered genealogy as a hobby and traced his ancestors back to the eleventh century.
He was a member of the American Legion post 211 in Lompoc.
His wife of 52 years Patricia Butler of Lompoc survives Fred.
At his request, cremation will be followed by interment in Arlington National Cemetery. No local services will be held.
His beloved wife wishes to thank and acknowledge the many friends who have extended their sympathy and condolences through cards and letters during this time of bereavement.
