Obituary

Frederick A. Cromp of Santa Maria passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007, at the age of 81.

Fred was born June 17, 1925 to Frederick and Julia Cromp in Athol, Massachusetts. After graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served during WW II and the Korean War. He began his career in civil service at the Hingham Naval Base in Massachusetts and was transferred to Vandenberg Air Force Base in 1963. He worked for 28 years as an electrician with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Lompoc and Pleasanton, retiring in 1981.

Fred was a member of the Santa Maria Elks Lodge #1538, a life member of the VFW, and a member of the Federal Prison Retirees Association. He loved to fish, and he enjoyed spending time at his neighborhood clubhouse playing pool and cards.

Fred's wife Mary Louise Cromp preceded him in death in 1991. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Susan Cromp of Lompoc; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Tom Hayes of Lompoc; four grandchildren, Marissa Hayes, Tommy Hayes, Miranda Cromp, and Ashley Cromp; and his sisters, Patricia Raymond and Virginia Compton, both of Athol, Massachusetts.

In honor of his request, no services will be held. Cremation will be followed by private inurnment. His family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the VFW Post #2421, 200 East Battles Road, Santa Maria, CA 93454.

Arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary in Lompoc.
