Obituary
Frederick William Viets of Lompoc died Friday, July 30, 2010, at the age of 87.
Fred was born April 21, 1923, to Martin and Anna Viets in West New York, New Jersey. A veteran of the United States Army, he was a Zamboni operator for the town of Hempstead Department of Parks and Recreation in New York. Formerly of East Meadow, New York, he has been a resident of Lompoc since 1985. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Fred is survived by his wife of 60 years Margaret Viets, his children and their spouses Martin and Norma Viets of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Susan and Ken Mayes of Spring Valley, California, Andy and Laura Viets of Camarillo, Amy and Tim Sylvester of Ashburn, Virginia, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at 12 noon at Bethany Lutheran Church directed by Pastor Joe Byrd. Cremation will be followed by inurnment in the Fort Rosencrans National Cemetery in San Diego. Memorial donations may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church for the purchase of a new van, 135 South E Street, Lompoc, CA 93436.
