Funeral Service
Gary Lynn Stamper passed away on March 11, 2026, in Lompoc, California, after a long struggle with diabetes and other illnesses, as well as dementia. He was born on September 10, 1946, at his parents' home in Chelsea, Michigan. Gary was baptized into the Southern Baptist Church in 1966.
Gary attended and graduated from Lompoc High School in 1965. In December of 1966, he joined the Marine Corp. He served two tours in Vietnam. He was on active duty from 1966 to 1969, and in the reserves from 1969 until 1972. He received the Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, National Service Medal with 3 stars, Rifle Sharpshooter, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. He was a sergeant when he was honorably discharged. In 2026 He was given a Pinning Ceremony in appreciation of his years of service as a United States Marine. He also attended Allen Hancock College. Gary worked his entire career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, advancing to the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 1996.
Gary’s passions were hunting and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his sons, Michael (Debra) and John. Grandchildren, Luke Stamper, Haley, Shianne, Chance, and Cody. Also, his siblings, Jim Stamper (Donna) of Grantham, N.H., and Charlene Stamper Grotjohn of Priest River, Idaho, his many nieces and nephews, friends, and the Gnesa family, who became an extension of his own family.
Service to be held on Friday, April 3, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel, 123 North A Street, Lompoc, CA 93436.
