Obituary

Gayron Terence Jackson of Lompoc died at his home Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at the age of 49.

Gayron was born May 8, 1964 to Grant Jackson and Willie Ruffin in Bakersfield, Ca. At the age of 17 he moved to Southern California where he graduated from Banning High School in Carson. He was offered double scholarships, one in baseball and the other in football. He accepted the baseball scholarship and played for West Los Angeles College for two years before being drafted by the Houston Astros where he played professional baseball.

After his retirement from professional baseball he became a business manager for the Honda Corporation in Los Angeles. Most recently he was employed by Mel Clayton Ford in Santa Barbara, Ca. as the office manager.

A resident of Lompoc since 1995, Gayron volunteered as a basketball coach for the Boy's and Girl's Club. He was a fierce competitor who enjoyed watching baseball, football and basketball.

Gayron was a man of faith, following the ministries of Joel Olsteen and T. D. Jakes.

Gayron will be missed by his wife of 15 years Donna Jackson of Lompoc, his daughter Shakari Russell of Santa Barbara, daughter Areial Russell of Hollywood, son Antoine Jackson of Long Beach, daughter Daesha Jackson of Lompoc, two grandchildren Janiya Salters and Corion Jackson of Long Beach, Ca.; his father Grant Jackson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, sister Rhonda Jackson of Bakersfield, Ca. brother Derrick Portis, Sr. of Lompoc, brother Kevin Portis of Santa Maria, sister Yolanda Jackson-Belli of Pittsburgh, sister Debbie Edwards of Dayton, Ohio, brother Grant Jackson, Jr. of Louistown, Pennsylvania and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, at 11 am at the Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 430 East Figueroa Street in Santa Barbara, California 93101. Floral arrangements can be sent in care of the Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church. The arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary in Lompoc.
