George Carder Hadley was born February 17, 1925 in Upland, California to Edward Fuller Hadley and Lucille Carder Hadley.
He graduated from Chaffey Union High School in Ontario, California. Afterwards, he enlisted in the USMC, serving in the South Pacific.
After his discharge in February of 1946, he completed his formal education at Pasadena City College and USC. He was then employed by the DMV, first assigned to Fort Bragg, California. In 1962 he was offered a promotion as DMV manager at Lompoc.
He was well-Known and popular member of the community. He was an active member of the First Christian Church of Lompoc from the time of his arrival. There he served in various capacities, including Elder, Chair of the Search Committee, Secretary-Treasurer of the Christians Men's Fellowship, and later as Elder Emeritus. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Lions' Club. In both organizations he served in various offices. For the lions he was District Governor and Secretary, attending various national and international conventions. In 1995, he was proclaimed Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce "Man of the Year," based on his involvement in the American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, United Way, Area Agency on Aging, California Association for the blind, and various other organizations. He frequently drove patients to the Braille Institute in Santa Barbara and to Santa Maria to permit legally Blind patients to play golf!
After the death of his father and that of his sister Pauline in a tragic automobile accident, George's mother Lucille came and lived with him until her death.
George was a devoted member of our city who will be missed by many.
George was a bachelor. He passed away peacefully on the 10 of November. One cousin, Diane Ware, lives in Bakersfield.
There will be a Memorial Service in his honor at the First Christian Church, 1517 West College, on Saturday, December 1 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Christian Church, the Lions' Club, the Masonic Lodge of Lompoc, the American Cancer Society, or the California Association for the Blind.
