George Francis Reid passed away at home March 14th in Lompoc, California. He was born in Silver Plume, Colorado on February 10, 1927.
His parents, Jack and Stella Reid passed away leaving him an orphan at the age of seven. His older brother and family helped raise him. He graduated from Mount Si High School, Snoqualmie, Washington in 1946. He then served in the US Army as a truck driver in Occupied Japan.
George returned to Denver, Colorado and married the love of his life, Gladys (Galatea) Vasiloudis in 1953. Soon after he became employed by Pan American and they moved to Eau Gallie, Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his growing family and loved to go walking on the beach and fishing. After twelve years they decided to start their own business and eventually moved to the San Francisco bay area to open George Reid Wholesale Import. They worked hard purchasing and loading antiques from Britain, France, and Belgium. After 20 years they semi-retired and moved to Salem, Oregon and opened a retail business. Missing their children and grandchildren they moved to Lompoc in 1997.
George enjoyed a quiet retirement with his wife fishing, refurbishing antique clocks, reading, solving crossword puzzles, playing pool, and sitting in the sun. He also enjoyed going to Shaver Lake with his daughter and son-in-law to fish, enjoy the seasons, and visit the Giant Sequoias.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Gladys of 54 years, and his brother Jack. He will be greatly missed by his daughter and son-in-law Jackie and Al Jaenicke who lovingly cared for him in their home for the past three years.
