Obituary

George passed away Wednesday morning, October 17, 2018, at his home in Lompoc, California at the age of 81.

George was born on August 21, 1937, in Hilo, Hawaii to Rose and Alejo Olivar.  George spent most of his younger years in Hilo until he joined the National Guard.  He completed his high school diploma while stationed in Okinawa Japan.

After two years with the National Guard, George joined the Marine Corps in August of 1955.  During his enlistment he served three combat duty tours to Vietnam; 1966 to 1967, 1968 to 1969, and 1975 to 1976.  He was a drill instructor in Parris Island, South Carolina and a recruiter in Joliet, Illinois and in Boston, Massachusetts.  George's final duty station for the USMC was back to Parris Island where he retired as a Sergeant Major in December of 1982.

After joining the Secret Service in January 1983, George moved his family to Lompoc.  He was assigned to the Ronald Reagan Protective Division.  George retired from the Secret Service in December of 2002.

George is survived by his wife Annabelle "Ann" of almost 60 years; his brothers Robert "Bobby" and Jerry Olivar; his sisters Marylyn Ota, Judi Nabers and Karlene Tamayo; his sons Bruce "TY" and Brian Olivar; his grandson Bruce "Little TY" Olivar II; granddaughters Meagan Anne, Taylor Rae; his great Granddaughter Laylah Anne; his daughter in law, Linda Jarrett-Olivar; step grandchildren, Kevin, Kelly and Kaitlyn Jarrett.  George was preceded in death by his youngest brother Gilbert "Ben" Olivar at the age of 19, in April of 1965, in Vietnam as the first causality from the big island of Hawaii.

George loved weapons of many types and enjoyed going to the shooting range as often as he could.  He was a marksman.  He also loved to BBQ and smoke a variety of meats which he eventually perfected.  As much as possible, George attended all sporting events his two sons were involved in.  He also enjoyed drag racing, NASCAR, fishing, hanging with friends and family and telling stories.  George welcomed everyone with open arms to his home, often feeding everyone (there's plenty!).

George was a hero to this great nation as well as his friends and family.  He will truly be missed by many. The visitation will be Saturday, October 27 th starting at 1 pm with the Celebration of Life at 2:20 pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.  The reception will follow at the Event Center directly behind the mortuary.
