IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geraldine Mae
Beattie
September 12, 1920 – June 14, 2018
Geraldine "Jerry" Mae Beattie, resident of Lompoc, CA, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at her home, at the age of 97. Born and raised in Lompoc, Jerry spent her entire life on ranches – first with her father, Albert Lewellyn, her mother Myrtle ("Peg"), and sister, Patricia ("Pat"). At age 18, Jerry married the love of her life, James "Jim" Beattie, Sr., also a Lompoc native. They settled on the Beattie family ranch on Artesia Avenue, and eventually moved to their ranch on Douglas Avenue, where they raised their three children and spent the remainder of their years.
Jerry had many interests and activities. In addition to caring for her family and home, in which she took great pride, she was an active community member with her husband, working with 4-H and other youth groups, and hosting exchange students from several different countries. After retirement, Jerry and Jim traveled throughout the United States as well as Canada and Mexico, and made lifelong friends on their journeys. Jerry was a master gardener, and loved sharing her garden with others. She had a deep love for animals, occasionally raising sheep on the ranch, and throughout her life she always had beloved dogs and cats. Jerry also loved birds, especially hummingbirds and owls. A lifelong learner, Jerry read voraciously, and educated herself on interests as varied as botany, Native American history, local history, antiques, rocks and minerals, cooking, baking, and many other subjects. She was also a skilled knitting and needlepoint artist. In addition to her hobbies, Jerry took great delight in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Jerry was beloved by her family and friends. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jimmy Beattie, Jr. (Jeannie), Bob Beattie (Yvonne), and Shirley Sell; by her 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and friends. She joins in peace and joy her beloved husband of over 64 years, Jim, as well as the many family members and friends (two-legged and four-legged) who have gone before her.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 30 th , at 10:00 am, at Oak Hill Cemetery District in Ballard. The family notes that Jerry loved color, and attendees are welcome to honor that in attire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any charity of the donor's choice. Family and all friends are invited to attend a celebration of Jerry's life, to be held at the ranch following the service.
