Gertrude "Trudy" Manton, 84, of Lompoc passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012. Trudy was born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 16, 1927 to Charles and Helen Cullen. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Winnie and William Stewart. She married Leon P. Manton on March 24, 1950 in North Quincy, Massachusetts.
Trudy worked in many different administrative positions before and after her marriage to Leon, following along with him as he was transferred throughout the country. She retired as an administrative and resources officer as a civilian for the Naval Ship Missile Weapons System Engineering Station in Port Hueneme. At that time she was administrating the O & M funds for the first and second Aegis Cruiser, the USS Ticonderoga and USS Yorktown. Her and Leon build a home and moved to Vandenberg Village in 1987.
Trudy attended Queen of Angels Catholic Church. She was a good golfer and a member of Village Country Club. She enjoyed gardening and swimming, and loved her pets.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 62 year, Leon Manton, her brother-in-law, Raymond Mantovani of Springfield, Mass. and nephews, Charles and William Cullen and a niece, Irene Cullen, all of Boston, Mass. Preceding her in death was her brother, Colonel Charles M. Cullen.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 10am at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church, with Father Fitzgerald presiding. Inurnment will follow at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. www.starbucklind.com
