Gladys "Marie" Escobar of Lompoc died on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at the age of 75. Marie was born on November 9, 1939, in Gillette, Wyoming, to Edward and Gertrude Brummett. Marie was raised and educated in Folsom, California, with her brother Bud and her sister Melanie.
Marie worked for many years as a welder for various farmers in Stockton, Carmel, and other cities in Northern California. She also spent eight years as a home health care provider. Marie was also a homemaker.
Marie was a member of the executive board of the local NAACP, past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign War, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing although she did not find many opportunities to do so.
Marie was a member of Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church. She was blessed with true friends.
Marie is survived by a son and two daughters, her brother Bud Brummett of Texas, and her sister Melanie Blair of Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband Sammy Escobar in 1996.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 201 South H Street, Lompoc, California. Inurnment will be at a later date.
