Obituary

Gladys P. Givens, 90, entered into the presence of her Lord on March 19, 2007 in Lompoc, California following a brief illness.

She was born August 14, 1916 in Akron, Ohio. She worked as a Nursing Assistant in two Akron hospitals before retiring with her husband to Lake Wales, Florida, in 1978. In 1999 she moved to Lompoc, California where she was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church serving as an office volunteer.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Givens, sister, Grace Chiccira, and daughter, Barbara J. Slavens. She was survived by her daughters Barbara Jean Murphy of Mentor, Ohio, Patricia Ann Edds of Rittman, Ohio, Phyllis (Ron) Searle of Lompoc, Ca., Patricia L. Bennett/Edwards of Lakeland, Fl., Robbin (Rick) Thompson of Lake Wales, Fl., Michelle (Eric) Givens/Rosario of Waldorf, MD, and sons Forrest (Susan) Givens III of Norman, Ok., and Tom (Lourdes) Givens of Louisville, Ky. Gladys had 31 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mom/Grandma/G4 enjoyed the daily challenge of her crossword and jigsaw puzzles and was an avid game player. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and church family will greatly miss her quick wit and competitive spirit over games of Yahtzee, Skip-bo, or dominoes. Mom, we'll miss our regular Monday night games of '65'.

A memorial service will be held at the First Southern Baptist Church, 1009 E. Pine, on April 14, 2007 at 11:00A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gladys Givens Memorial Fund at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary
