HARLAN WILBUR EMERSON
1932 – 2008
Harlan Wilbur Emerson passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2008, at his home in Lompoc.
Harlan was born on February 28, 1932, in Biddeford, Minnesota, to Harlan and Grace Emerson. After his graduation from high school, he joined the United States Air Force. He served for 12 years in Japan as well as at Vandenberg Air Force Base. He was a Judo instructor while stationed in Japan. He was a canine handler with the Security Police Forces and had achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant. He has been a resident of Lompoc since 1974.
Harlan earned his bachelors degree in Administration of Justice from Chapman University. He worked as a correction officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department for 11 years and Pinkerton Security for 10 years.
Harlan enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping, and vacations. He was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Santa Barbara.
Harlan is survived by his wife Sandra; son, Michio Emerson, daughter, Catherine Mercya Emerson, and son, Calvin William Emerson, all of Lompoc; and his sister, Marjorie Emerson, of Saco, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his first wife Chieko Emerson in 2002, and his brother Harry Brackett.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary led by Pastor Geli of the Santa Barbara Seventh-day Adventist Church. A memorial service will be held on May 2 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Santa Barbara. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Biddeford, Maine
