Obituary

Heather Carrie Quinn, 88, of Vandenberg Village, California, passed away on December 19, 2025, surrounded by loving family members.

Born on October 21, 1937, in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, England, to Albert and Carrie Griffiths, she was raised and spent her primary and high school years there. At the age of 19 she moved to the London area, where she found employment as a secretary. While living there, she met Ralph, and Airman in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at RAF Station West Drayton. They were married in September of 1958 in Whitby, Ellesmere Port.

Heather quickly adapted to military life and in 1960 she traveled from England to Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Washington, with her first child, David. While there, she had two more children, Lorraine and Michael. While in Spokane she proudly became a U.S. Citizen. During her time as a military wife, Heather and her family moved a lot, including two tours in Spain. While stationed at Vandenberg AFB, she worked at the Base Veterinary Clinic. Heather soon was put into the position of managing the household and raising the children alone when her husband received orders and was gone several years over a short period of time. She always put the well-being of her family ahead of anything else and was a dedicated and loving Mother who put all her strength into keeping the family together in those difficult times.

After retirement from Military life in 1980, she moved the family to Vandenberg Village, CA where Heather went to work for Martin Marietta. She started as a secretary and eventually worked in Configuration Management, before retiring. She worked at various times on Space Shuttle, MX and Titan programs. While working for Martin Marietta, Heather went back to school, studied hard and earned an associate degree at Allan Hancock and a bachelor’s degree at Laverne College.

Heather always enjoyed volunteering her time wherever she was living at the time. Locally she was a longtime volunteer with Toys for Tots, at her Church, and at the Vandenberg Village Branch Library. Along the way she gave her time as a Sunday School Teacher, volunteering in a Vets office, AFB Family Services, among other things.

Heather was a loving, gentle person who led an active life. Even after being diagnosed with Dementia and other health problems, which she coped with for a long time, she continued to live and remain in good spirits as best as she possibly could through the years remaining to her. She was a breast cancer survivor.

In addition to being with family, her interests included, golfing, bowling, going on Cruises, annual trips to the Kern River, many trips to England to visit family, going to the horse races, her many many get togethers with her close friends and British Wives Club Members. She was a past member of the local Tops Chapter, P.E.O. Chapter NU, and the Lompoc Orchid Society.

Heather was a longtime Parishioner at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church; she volunteered many hours there and was a member of St. Martha’s Guild. Her faith was unshakeable.

Heather is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ralph, Son, David (Lorrine), Son, Michael and Brother, Barry; Grandchildren: Jillian, Carson, Brenna, Tiffny, and Paul (Barbara); Great-grandchildren: Coral, Emilie, Lizzy, Ricky, Amore, Scarlett, and Dominik; Nephews: Stuart and Barry; and Niece Karon.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Daughter, Lorraine, and Sister-in-law, Ann.

There will be a Celebration of Life get together at St. Mary’s Church in Lompoc on February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
