Herbert Charles Jones of Lompoc died Saturday July 30, 2016, at the age of 85.

Herbert was born on January 27,1931 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to Nathan and Ruth Jones. He Graduated from St. Francis High School in Yazoo City and completed his education by earning a degree at Allan Hancock College in Criminal Justice.

He married Barbara D. Pepper in 1956. While serving in the United States Air Force his family was transferred to Vandenberg Airforce Base in 1968. After his retirement as a Tech Sergeant he went to work for the federal prison in Lompoc where he was the Range Master for its shooting range. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and buying and selling cars.

Herbert is survived by his wife Barbara D. Jones; his children Cheryl Ramey of Sacramento, Daryl Jones of Lompoc, Timothy Jones of Burlington Washington, and Shawn Jones of Hesperia; 12 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; his sister Bobby J. Jones of Oakland; and one nephew. He is preceded in death by his son Michael Jones; his sisters Berta Johnson and Mollie Franklin; and his brother Nathan Jones, Jr.

A viewing will take place on Thursday, August 4, from 4-8 pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, with a rosary at 7 pm. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, August 5, at 1 pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Interment with military honors will follow in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
