Obituary

Hollie Faye Randolph Farnum was born to Charlie K. Randolph and Marzella Cromer Randolph on July 16, 1931, in Chilton, Texas. She came to know Christ at an early age and lived her life helping and serving others.

Hollie met and married David Farnum and they raised five children, Erma Farnum Smith, David Farnum, Jr., Evayon Farnum, Charles Farnum and Jacqueline Farnum. She traveled with her husband, fondly referred to as "Chief", to various Air Force duty assignments: Travis, Anderson, Beale, Pease, Vandenberg, and settled in Lompoc after his retirement.

After raising her family Hollie returned to school and received an Associate of Arts Degree from Allan Hancock College, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Chapman University. She held a California Community College Instructor's Credential and a Child Development Instructor's Credential. She was a licensed Cosmetologist and served as a Sales Manager for Sarah Coventry, Inc., substitute teacher in local parochial schools and child development centers, parent consultant for Santa Barbara County Schools, North County Outreach Coordinator for the African American Community Services, Community Developer for North County Community Partnership Project and a Case Manager for Big Brother/Big Sister of America.

Hollie's volunteer experience centered in the area of family services. She worked as an Assistant Family Services Coordinator for the U.S. Air Force at Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire and with the Girl Scouts, Presbyterian Youth and church leadership, and Santa Barbara County School's Student Attendance Review Board. She was a leader in the Parents and Teachers Association at the local and state level, and the 15th District PTA President. Hollie served on the Affirmative Action Commission of Santa Barbara County, Allen Hancock's Foster Care Advisory Board, and on several ad hoc committees and task forces in the community. She was a past Board Member of the Lompoc Hospital Foundation, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 125, a member of the Alpha Club, Club Arcturus, an NAACP Life Member, a California PTA Honorary Life Member and a 50+ Year Member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of Beta Pi Sigma Sorority, Inc., Lambda Chapter, an organization which serves the youth, elderly and less fortunate. She was a member of the Lompoc Valley First Presbyterian Church for over 45 years and was active until illness restricted her participation.

Hollie was preceded in death by her husband, David Farnum, a son, David Farnum, Jr., brothers, Charlie, Albert, Cromer, Archie, Daniel, and sisters, Clara and Vandora.

Hollie leaves to cherish her memories and rejoice in her home going: Erma Smith, Carl Smith (son-in-law), Evayon Farnum, Charles Farnum (who recently succumbed to an untimely death shortly after her passing), Jacqueline Farnum, and; grandsons, Carl Smith, Jr. and Jeremy Farnum, granddaughter, Nicole Farnum; great-granddaughters, Isis Rayford-Farnum and Heavynn Farnum-Gibbs; sister, Eva Lue Flippin, brother, Thelise Randolph, sister-in-law, Annie Pearl Randolph; goddaughter, AveMarie Linthicum; life-long friend, Jernice Poole-Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews and beloved relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church of Lompoc, 1600 Berkeley Drive. Burial will follow at the Lompoc Cemetery. Visitation hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, October 25th at the mortuary.
