IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ignacio
Luna
December 3, 1954 – November 3, 2024
Ignacio Luna or "Nach" to his family and friends, passed away suddenly on November 3, 2024. Born on December 3, 1954, in Lompoc, CA, he was a lifelong resident. Several years after graduating from Lompoc High School in 1973, Nach married Susan (Preece) Luna on July 3, 1976. In the next 5 years, they welcomed two sons, Brandon, and Cameron.
Family was at the center of Nach's life as were local sports. Always an athletic person, he did not get the opportunity to play organized sports until he was a junior and senior at Lompoc High School when he played defensive end for the Braves. This sparked a lifelong passion for encouraging and coaching young athletes; From coaching his younger brother in YFL to coaching his two sons in about every sport they played. He also coached his siblings and friends, and their children in multiple sports. Even if he was not an expert in a particular sport, Nach had a knack for teaching kids the fundamentals of athleticism and competition.
Being competitive and physically active was a major part of Nach's life. Despite having a physical job at Johns Manville/Celite Corporation for 33 years, he loved going to the gym before or after work. During this time, he also played basketball and softball on countless weekends as well as in rec leagues throughout the year with friends and family. His competitive spirit came out around the cribbage board from years of playing during breaks at work, after dinner with Susan or with his boys; You could also find him with a friend who popped in to say hi and have a beer. He spent countless hours around the BBQ pit, cooking a great chicken half or a steak. He cooked for so many different events over the years - a simple dinner at home, weekend party, a birthday, graduation, rehearsal dinner or a Friday cook-your-own at the Elks Club, where he was a member for 39 years. He always had a story or "advice" on how cook it right.
Music was always present in Nach's life. There are many stories of him going to concerts with friends or with Susan and later with his boys. He loved The Eagles, Jackson Brown, Billy Idol, Garth Brooks, George Strait and many more. He would sing Springsteen songs around the house and tell stories about how he sang them to his boys when they were babies on his chest. Music was always playing at the house during dinner or while playing cards. You could find him at a wedding reception or an event with a band, swing dancing with Susan to their favorite songs "Brown Eyed Girl" (Van Morrison) and "Amarillo by Morning" (George Strait).
If music was not playing, it is because the Rams, Dodgers or Lakers were on TV. He could be extremely passionate about his teams and loved spending time with friends and family watching a game. He would chip at or make small bets with his friends that didn't root for his teams, but it was all in good fun. It was wonderful that he was able to see the Dodgers win the World Series this year.
Nach was a man who lived life with passion. He loved having fun, laughing with friends, and sharing Budweiser's or his sister's salsa. He loved his wife, his sons, and being a father. He cherished his role as a brother, uncle, and cousin, and he adored being "Papa" to his grandchildren.
Nach was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Talavera; brothers Albert Gonzales and Arnold Luna; sisters Mary Lou Paramo and Vicky Luna. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan Luna; sons Brandon Luna (Jamie) and Cameron Luna (Marissa); grandchildren Andrew and Dylan Luna, and Reece and Harper Luna; siblings Rudy Paramo, Espie Carrillo, Debbie Luna, Ernie Talavera, and Beatrice Talavera; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
