Obituary

Irene Gordon passed away at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on Sunday August 21, 2016 after a short illness. Irene was born February 14, 1924 in Manchester, New Hampshire. Irene was married in 1944 to Robert Gordon in Portland, Maine. Robert eventually enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951. The family lived for periods of time in Manchester, the Azores Islands, Aurora, Colorado and even Bangkok, Thailand before settling in Lompoc for good in 1971. Robert passed away in 1993 just a few months prior to celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

She arrived in Lompoc with her family in 1969 when her husband Robert was stationed at Vandenberg AFB. Irene was a dedicated homemaker who always was there for her family. When her children were older, she obtained part-time employment at a local motel as a housekeeper. She later worked at Vandenberg AFB Cafeteria and then later at Burger King at Vandenberg. Many patrons knew her and were warmed by her heartwarming smile.

Irene was a member of the Lompoc Chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) for over 40 years. She was also an active line dancer with the Lompoc Half Century Club attending many of their events. Irene also attended exercise classes at the old Lompoc Pool and Carnahan Therapy for several years. She was a parishioner at La Purisima Catholic Church since her arrival in Lompoc.

Irene is survived by her three sons Wayne (Marjoree) of Oxnard, Gary (Becky) of Lompoc and Alan (Virginia) of Lompoc. She is also survived by her most devoted granddaughter Tracie Gordon (Wayne) and daughter Jessica of Lompoc and grandchildren Victoria, Matthew, and Nathaniel Gordon (Alan and Virginia) of Lompoc and Kyle Gordon (Gary) of Monument, Colorado. Irene is also survived by grandchildren Tony and Terry Gordon, Jonna Marie, Mia Joy, Janeen Maica, Sibul (Wayne) Greg, Scott, and Christopher Rouleau (Gary) and several great grandchildren.

Rosary and Vigil Services will be held 6 pm Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the chapel of Starbuck Lind Mortuary. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 am Friday at La Purisima Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
