Obituary

Isaac James Best, 40, of Lompoc, passed away on December 27, 2018, in Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, after a sudden illness claimed his life. He was born October 29, 1978 in Santa Maria, only son of James Best and Sandi (Goldsberry) Best. He attended Lompoc schools and graduated from Cabrillo High School in 1997.

Isaac was an incredible human being with a brilliant mind and a compassionate heart. His greatest loves were his wife, Elizabeth, his cat, Xander, baseball, and photography. He saw the beauty in everything around him and was able to capture it with a single shot of his lens. He never turned down an opportunity to play a board or card game or solve a Rubik's cube. He valued meaningful interactions with people, whether through intellectual debate or laughing through a bad movie. He looked forward to Sundays when he would play Dungeons & Dragons with his closest friends. He valued family dinner time and evening Jeopardy with his dad. He was an incredible story teller and loved telling people about his adventures and experiences. He was an advocate for the underdog and was never afraid to stand up for what is right, even if he stood alone. Though he was taken from this world far too soon, Isaac's legacy lives on through his photography and all the people who knew and loved him.

Isaac is survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 13 years, his parents, his paternal grandmother, Joan Best, of Indiana, his maternal grandmother, Betty Goldsberry, of Washington, and an abundance of extended family in Lompoc and across the country. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James A. Best Sr., of Indiana, his maternal grandfather, Charles Raymond Goldsberry, of Lompoc, and his beloved Cat, Xander.
