Isabel Garcia of Lompoc died Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at the age of 88.
Isabel was born May 18, 1919 in Mesa, Arizona. She married in 1943. During World War II she worked at the shipyards in San Francisco and San Diego as "Rosie the Riveter". This was a humorous yet respectful name for the millions of American women who worked in defense plants during the war.
When her husband got out of the service they moved to Lompoc and made that their permanent home. She was an active member of the Senior Citizens club for 38 years. She spoiled her family and friends with her famous pineapple turnovers and homemade flour tortillas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alexander R. Garcia. She leaves her only daughter, Adeline Trujillo, surviving granddaughter, Tamara Martinez, and surviving great-granddaughters Nichole and Arielle Zamora. Surviving siblings include brothers Ray Perez and sister-in-law Cammie Perez of San Diego, Henry Carlon, Willy Carlon and sister-in-law Arlene Carlon, and sister Nora Linde of Lompoc.
There will be a memorial mass at La Purisima Catholic Church later this month. Cremation will be followed by interment in Los Angeles.
