Obituary

Isaias "Sy" Frank Rios of Lompoc, died on Friday, January 6, 2017 at the age of 94 in Santa Maria, California. He was born on May 11, 1922 in Juarez, Mexico, to Atanacio and Juana Rios, both of Mexico. He came to Lompoc in 1924 and attended Lompoc High School. Sy enlisted in the United States Army and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served two tours of duty for a total of six years from 1944 to 1946 and 1949 to 1952. After his service, Sy was employed by Beattie Motors as a detail man for 17 years. He also worked as a mortuary assistant with Starbuck-Lind Mortuary for 25 years and as a reserve police officer for 9½ years with the Lompoc Police Department. He was a 70-year longtime resident of Lompoc, a long-time member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene, a life member of American Legion Post 211, and member of the Lompoc Grange. In 1982, he married Janet Williams. Sy was a beloved family member, and he will be dearly missed. He will fondly be remembered for his adage "Don't get old".
Sy is survived by his daughters Lisa Kuster and Connie Berroteran both of Lompoc, Victoria Castillo of Santa Maria; sons Tony Rios and David Rios both of Santa Maria, Frank Rios of Santa Barbara, and Gilbert Rios of Phoenix, Arizona; 15 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Janet in 2004, his parents, and his brother Enrique Molina.
Graveside services will be held at 1pm Friday, January 20th at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
