Jack Gerald Lundy, 82, of Lompoc, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 1, 2013. Jack graduated from high school in Palisade, Colorado in 1949. He attended Mesa Jr. College on an athletic scholarship, and completed his degree at Colorado State Greeley. Jack married his high school sweetheart Genivee Odneal in 1950, and they were blessed with 62 years of marriage. They raised five children who rewarded them with 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Jack and Genivee were from Palisade Colorado, and moved to Lompoc in 1962 where Jack taught and counseled in the Lompoc School District for 30 years. Among his many "additional career paths", Jack enjoyed several summers prospecting Uranium, a year working as a counselor and liaison between the Hopi and Navajo tribes in Keems Canyon Arizona, seven years as Director at Cielo Arts and Music Camp at Lake Cachuma, and five summers at the Alisal guest ranch as a wrangler. Jack recently commented that he did not have a bucket list because he had lived his bucket list. Among his many passions, he attended many athletic events, gymkhanas, and rodeos of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of Jack's favorite pasttimes was fishing. He could often be found fishing for perch at Jalama, or out on his boat fishing for the "big one" at Cachuma. He was an avid Gardner, and loved to share the "fruits of his labor" with family and friends.
Jack is survived by his wife Genivee; children, Deanna (Randy) Grunert, Susan (Bob) Grossini, Bill (Diane) Lundy, John (Lisa) Lundy, and Kim (Frank) Costa; grandchildren, Christy (Jeff) Mang, Jason (Kendra) Grossini, Billy (Renee) Grossini, Joelle (Josh) Jacobs, Sky (Jordan) Lundy, Marena, Devin (Ryan) McClelland, Jessica, Jordyn Lundy, Shelby (Josh) Costa, Kasi and Kylin Costa; great grandchildren, Tyler, Jenna, Brynn, Kenley, Destiny, Serena Grossini, Derek Argel, Hailey and Makayla Jacobs, Sutton Mang and Zander Lundy.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Evelyn Lundy; granddaughter, Joleen Grossini and great grandson Billy Grossini Jr. The family will be holding a private celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lompoc High School Athletics, 515 W. College Avenue, Lompoc 93436 or Lompoc Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 883, Lompoc, 93438.
A special thank you to Dr. Burgess and staff for their compassionate care.
