Obituary

Jacques was born in Belgium to Jules J Bertrand and Helene Ledoseray Bertrand.

Jacques served in the Belgian Army from 1962 to 1963. He came to the United States in 1970 to join his mother and sister Anne. Jacques spent many years working as a car salesman in Lompoc and then as the owner of independent small businesses. He completed his career at the Santa Barbara Harbor where he owned the postal annex. He loved living near the ocean, enjoyed sailing, and spent many years living on his boat in Santa Barbara.

He was preceded in death by his mother Helene, father Jules, and sister Paule. He is survived by his daughter Kathie (Mark) Salera; Kathie's mother Odile; his granddaughter Breanne (Grady) Gray; his sister Anne (Jerry) McInturff, his niece Debbie (Gary) McComb and their children Kory and Jenna and their families.

Jacques had a zest for the simple things in life. Never a complainer, he was always known to be making lemonade out of lemons. He was very much loved by his family and friends. We will all miss him greatly.

The family would like to thank all those friends and neighbors who have helped Jacques during the later years of his life, especially his business partner and family friend David Villazana for all the support and help he has provided to Jacques over the years. He thought of him like a son as well as a friend.

There will be a memorial gathering on Monday, May 2, 2016, at 10 am at the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary in Lompoc.
