Curry
February 28, 1925 – July 17, 2018
James D. Curry (J. D. or Doc as his family would call him), 93, born on February 28, 1925, passed away at his home in Lompoc, California, on July 16, 2018.
J. D. served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945 in World War II as a pharmacist's mate, Second Class. He went on to work for the Bakersfield Police and Arvin Fire Departments for a short time. Most of his years were spent working for the railroad as a switchman and yard master for 30 years (1947-1977) in Fresno, California.
After retirement, he and Helen moved to Apple Valley, California, where he worked various jobs – security, real estate and Motel 6 – where they always leave the lights on.
He is survived by his daughter Janice Lorenzo, grandchildren Lisa (Raul) Owen, Jeri (Tim) Hawk, Tony (Toni) Lorenzo, five great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters, Florence, Betty, and Ann, two brothers Bill and Dean, and several nieces and nephews, all of Oklahoma.
J. D. was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Curry, daughters Carol and Linda, one grandson Jimmy, and his brother Glenden.
A memorial celebration will be held at Crossroads Community Church, 412 North B Street, Lompoc, California, at 10 am on Saturday, August 11, 2018. In lieu of flowers and in the memory of James, please donate to the Crossroads Community Church.
There will be a private burial at the Riverside National Cemetery.
