A private funeral mass for James M. Dunlavey, 80, of Lompoc, will be celebrated at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. John Fitzgerald officiating. A memorial mass will also be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, New Jersey.
James was born July 14, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Martin and Otilla Dunlavey. He grew up in Philadelphia and attended the local schools. Jim worked his way through college and earned a bachelor's degree from La Salle College in Philadelphia. He was a Korean War veteran and served honorably in the U.S. Navy. With training and education in business administration, he worked and managed within the transportation industry for over 40 years. He enjoyed his retirement in Margate, New Jersey for years, and moved to Lompoc in 2003 to be with family. Jim will lovingly be remembered for being a devoted husband, proud father, good brother and loving grandparent.
He died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Lompoc Valley Medical Center.
Survivors include his son; Jim Dunlavey and wife Shelly of Lompoc; daughter, Maureen Abernathy and husband George of Frisco, Texas; sisters, Nancy Jacobs and Eileen Griffin both of Philadelphia, and Cathy Leisse of Hainesport, New Jersey; grandchildren, Kacie Dunlavey, Jaime Dunlavey, James Dunning, Molly Dunlavey, Alec Abernathy and Matthew Abernathy. His wife Elizabeth preceded him in death in 2000.
