James William Hunt
1930 – 2008
James William Hunt of Santa Maria died Thursday, August 14, 2008, at the age of 78.
James was born March 28, 1930, in South Central Los Angeles. At the age of ten he moved to Fowler, California. In 1948 he joined the United States Army Air Corp. During his military career he served one tour in Korea and two tours in Viet Nam.
After his honorable discharge from the United States Air Force in 1970 from Minot AFB in North Dakota, he went to work for the City of Lompoc at the water treatment plant. He also was a reserve fireman in Lompoc for 10 years.
James was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Club Arcturus in Lompoc. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fowler.
James is survived by his wife of 34 years Pham Hunt of Lompoc, sons Richard Hunt and Dyrrel Hunt both of Las Vegas, his daughters Sheri Beverly, Marsha Hymon, Christie Hunt, Cookie Hunt, and Myra Hunt all of Las Vegas, sons Jerome and James Lamar Hunt of Lompoc, and daughter Kim Williams of Sacramento. He was preceded in death by his daughter Valerie Hunt in 2004 and his brother Pete Marone of Fresno. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.
The visitation will be on Friday, August 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. The funeral service will be on Saturday, August 23, at 10 a.m. at Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, at the intersection of Cypress and South H Street in Lompoc. Associate Minister Kenneth Bridgette will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
