JD was born on August 29, 1944, in Modesto, California, to James and Mary Vieweg. He died at the age of 74 on September 9, 2018, at his home in Lompoc, California. He was raised and educated in Modesto and attended Modesto High School.  JD served his country in the United States Air Force.

JD came to Lompoc in 1979. He was a member of La Purisima Concepcion Catholic Church. He had a career as a signalman with the Southern Pacific Railroad.  He had a special interest in cars and was a NASCAR fan.

JD is survived by his wife Francisca of Lompoc; his sons Raymond (Fe) of Fremont, California, and Kevin of Buellton, California; his daughter Deadra (Simon) Deyell of Florida; his stepsons Steven Hoover of Japan, Joshua Hoover of Lompoc, Matthew Hoover of Washington, and Glen Hoover of Washington, DC; his grandsons Anthony Ray Vieweg of Washington, and Daniel-Paul Vieweg of Phoenix, Arizona; his granddaughter Paige Deyell of Florida; step granddaughters Hayley and Chloe Hoover of Lompoc; step grandson Nikolai Hoover of Lompoc; brother Dennis Wise of Rio Linda, California; and sister Lourie Foust. JD was preceded in death by his first wife Lillian Vieweg and his brother Jimmy Wise.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 2 pm, at the family home at 917 North Z Street, Lompoc, California.
