Obituary

James “Jim” Lee Davis

June 7, 1947 – August 9, 2026

James Lee Davis passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on August 9, 2026, at the age of 79. He was a kind, gentle, and giving soul, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and friend who touched the lives of many.

Jim was born on June 7, 1947, in Valdosta, Georgia, to Claude and Arlene Davis. He graduated from Taylor County High School in 1965. He pursued higher education at Free Will Baptist Bible College from 1966-1969, earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science. His passion for teaching led him to Faith Christian Academy in Goldsboro, North Carolina from 1969-1972.

Jim proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1972–1992, retiring as a Master Sergeant. During his service, he also earned his master’s degree in computer science from Chapman College. After his military career, he returned to his true calling—education—teaching at Crossroads Christian Jr. High and later at Trivium Charter School until his retirement in 2018. He was also deeply involved in his church community as a Deacon, Music Leader, Youth Group Leader and Sunday School teacher.

Above all, Jim’s greatest love was his family.

He is survived by: Wife: Sarah “Sally” Guthrie Davis his beloved wife of 58 years.

  • Children: Christopher S. Davis (Tina), Stephanie D. Waite (Brad), and Angela S. Davis. Grandchildren: Scott, Levi, Rachel, Justin, Maddie, Kenzie, and Noah. Brother: Richard Davis (Sherry). Nieces & Nephews: Richard Jr., Jennifer, Victoria, Johanna, Patricia, and Benjamin.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Arlene Davis and his sister and brother-in-law, Claudia and John Richey.
