SSGT, James Marvin Lehman was born on March 18, 1953 in Lompoc, CA. He was the fourth child of seven children born to Ernest and Therese Lehman. James left peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at St. Vincent Hospital in Los Angeles, CA at the age of 56.
Jim was raised in Missions Hills and educated through La Purisima Catholic School and the Lompoc Unified School District. He met his wife Cathy Perry in high school. Jim graduated from Cabrillo High School in June 1972. Jim and Cathy were married
August 24, 1974 at La Purisima Catholic Church in Lompoc (34 years). While attending Cabrillo High School, Jim was on the wrestling team for two years with
Coach Dave Long. He was Jim's athletic teacher, coach, and mentor. Jim also spoke highly of his favorite English teacher, Mr. Bob Lawrence, who is the current Athletic Director at Cabrillo High School.
After graduation, Jim entered the U.S. Army in June 1972 and returned to Lompoc in 1986 after leaving the military. While serving his country, Jim and Cathy live in California, Kansas, Louisiana, Virginia, and Germany.
Jim was a loving son, husband, brother, and friend who loved life to its fullest. Many will miss Jim, but now we all have another Angel in Heaven looking down upon us. Jim loved his sports; wrestling, baseball, basketball and football. He would say, "Let's go New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Boston Celtics and the St. Louis Rams."
Jim is survived by his wife Cathy Lehman of Lompoc; brother Larry Lehman and family of Nottingham, NH; brother Paul Lehman of Sunnyvale, CA; sister Christine Gillingham-(Charlie) and family of Yreka, CA; sister Laurie Lehman of Lompoc; brother-in-law
Roy Lee Britton of Alamogordo, NM; many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Therese Lehman, father and mother in-law, Joe and Mae Perry; sisters, Judith Ann Britton, Lynne Diane Lehman Klein; and sister-in-law Beverly Lane Lehman.
Memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 19, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Msgr. John Fitzgerald, officiating.
