Obituary

Mickey Shannon returned to live with his Heavenly Father and to reunite with other loved ones who had gone before him on October 4, 2009 in Parker, Colorado. He was 44 years old.

Mickey was born March 2, 1966 in Oxnard, California to Patricia Eileen Bell and James Darrell Hainline. Upon the death of his mother when he was a toddler, he was adopted by his uncle and aunt, Mike and Shirley Shannon. Mickey was their fourth child of six and grew up in a large, active family.

He grew up and went to Lompoc and Utah schools. He was active in Village Hills Youth Sports, 4-H Club, Scouting and church.
When Mickey was 13, his birth father was killed in a farming accident in Lompoc. This was a very difficult time for him. It was at this time that he went to Provo to attend school. While there he continued to work on his scouting and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Mickey loved his scouting experiences and was proud to be an Eagle Scout.
Mickey loved music and played the piano and drums until he fell in love with the guitar. From that point on, it was music that made him happy. He wrote, played and performed his own songs and loved to share his talents with everyone.

Mickey was loved by many and he loved them in return. He left home at the age of 16 to follow his own dreams, but always stayed in touch with his family. He especially loved his grandmother, Wanda Ymer. He lived in Maryland, Florida, Texas, South Dakota and Colorado, making friends all along the way.

Over the years, Mickey tried unsuccessfully to reconnect with his birth mother's family and his half-brother, Jeffrey Allen Baker, of Texas. This was a great sadness to him. But in recent years he came to realize how much a part of his adopted family he really was and was making plans to attend a family reunion during the holidays.

In addition to his birth mother and father, Mickey was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Dale V. Bell and James Robert Hainline. He is survived by his parents, Mike and Shirley Shannon of South Ogden, UT; his grandparents, Gertrude Bell of Camarillo, CA and Al and Wanda Ymer of Ventura, CA. He also leaves behind his siblings: Shannon Albio of Roy, UT; Whitney Spackman of Santa Barbara, CA; Darren Shannon of Solvang, CA; Patrick Shannon of South Ogden, UT; Laurel Zaugg of South Ogden, UT in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Mickey has been a source of joy to his family and friends and we will miss his ready smile.
His family would like to thank all of his friends near and far who contributed to making his journey a happy one and especially Jordan Baumgardner, who contributed so much to the peace he found in Colorado.

A memorial service will be held for Mickey at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mesa Oaks Ward at 10 am on Saturday, October 17, 2009.
