James Harry Morris was born on January 4, 1916 in Whitesburg, Georgia and was the second of four children born to Raymond Morris and Berma Garner Morris. He and his family moved from their cotton farm in Western Georgia to Gadsden, Alabama when Harry was a child. Harry attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee where he was the captain of the football team.
During World War II, Harry was stationed at Camp Cook, now Vandenberg AFB. He was a Master Sergeant in the Army Infantry and fought in numerous key battles in Europe. He returned to Lompoc after the war where he owned and operated the Harry Morris Insurance Agency for over fifty years.
Harry has three children including James McCabe Morris of San Mateo, California, Nancy Morris Willey of McCall, Idaho, and Jean Morris Mitchell of Santa Barbara, California. He has five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He has a niece, Patricia Hornor of Conyers, Georgia and nephews Jerry Copeland of Covington, Louisiana and Phillip Morris of Birmingham, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Morris.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 14th, at 2 pm at the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel with a reception following at the Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Lompoc,
