James "Jim" Clarke Scott, 76, the husband of the late Monica H. Scott, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 1, 2019, in Lompoc, California. Born September 4, 1942, in Huntington Park, California, he was the son of the late James Scott and Ruth Scott.
Jim graduated from Huntington Park High School and later attended the Al Somers Umpire School in Daytona Beach, Florida. He spent many years working college level and minor league baseball and was provided the opportunity to umpire a few professional games during the late 1970s. Jim had a long career in the property management field, and in 1981, he and his family moved to Lompoc where Jim took a job with Lockheed Martin. Jim supported local athletic programs here while volunteering his time with the football and baseball programs. When he wasn't umpiring, you could find him in the stands supporting the teams and coaches. Jim was also a talented musician and headlined his own swing band for many years, working various events around the area. He was an avid model train enthusiast and a loyal member of Model Train clubs in both Lompoc and San Luis Obispo. He will be missed by his family, friends and many people in the community.
He is survived by his brother Phillip Scott of Fort Worth, Texas, sons Ronald Scott of Hermosa Beach, California, Jim Scott of Goleta, California, daughter Gina Phelps of Lompoc, four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel on May 14, 2019, at 11:30 with private family interment to follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
