IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jane Lyle
Murray
April 23, 1940 – January 8, 2025
Jane Lyle Murray, a 50-year resident of Lompoc, passed away on January 8th in the company of her children. Born in 1940 in Luton England to Hugh and Jane Murray of Scotland, she enjoyed swimming, the sciences, and the natural world. She swam for St. Andrews University where she earned degrees in mathematics and computer science and then studied medicine at Glasgow University.
It was on a break where she met and fell in love with Ronald Goldstein. Her strong desire for a family led to the hard decision to leave university, marry, and emigrate to the States. After raising her children for many years she returned to work at first in education, but later for several different companies at Vandenberg AFB that were involved in satellite programs including the Titan IV. It was at this point she naturalized and became an American citizen.
In retirement, she was a regular volunteer at La Purisima Mission, where she is remembered as an authority on native plants and her talent in tending a medicinal garden. She also volunteered at the Lompoc Museum and enjoyed playing with local bridge clubs.
She is remembered as a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Jane was preceded in death by her sister Maureen King and brother Martin Murray. She is survived by her sister Helen Bateman, her children Catherine Borgard, Jacqueline Cain, Hugh Goldstein, and Margaret Alvarenga, her grandchildren Ruth and Jessie Alvarenga, and great-grandson, Aaron Alvarenga-Hopkins, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A reception of remembering will be held on February 1st at 1 p.m. at Valley of the Flowers Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Planned Parenthood.
