A" Celebration of Life" will be shared at Lompoc Cemetery November 17, 2006 at 2:00 p.m.
Jean was born to James Morrison Doornbos and Ada Henrietta Doornbos in Casper, Wyoming on July 23, 1929. Her family moved to Los Angeles where she grew up with her five brothers, and where she attended Compton College earning an AA. After marrying James F. O'Guin, her love of travel began as they were a military family and were reassigned almost every two and a half years. Jean was employed by Civil Service for more than 20 years, and worked in many commissary locations such as Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, Carswell Air Force Base in Texas, two separate times at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, and at Lakenheath in England. She retired in May of 1992 and returned with her husband to Lompoc, California with a fond memento of England -- a big red English phone booth that now sits in front of their home.
Her legacy to her family is her zest for life and joyous sense of humor, (sometime bordering on the outrageous), her kindness, and her ability to talk with everyone! Her happiness came from her family, friends, travel, sewing, quilting and a lot more quilting! She was one of the founding members of Quilters Etc., and for one of their weekend workshops she arranged and prepared a wonderful "English Tea" which everyone enjoyed and still talk about.
She is survived by her husband, James F. O'Guin, son, James N. O'Guin, and daughters, Joyce F. Moiha and Jill A. O'Guin, all of Lompoc; brothers, Arthur B. Doornbos of San Jose, CA, William A. Doornbos of Fountain Valley, CA, and Robert E. Doornbos of Huntington Beach, CA.; grandsons, Kanui Moiha ofWaialua, HI, and Kama Moiha of Playa del Rey, CA.; great-grandchildren, Anela Nunez-Kalulu, Leilani Kalulu, Puaena Moiha, and Kanui Moiha Jr. all ofWaialua, HI.; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Jean passed away at home, Monday, November 6, 2006 in Lompoc. She was preceded in death by her father in 1954, her mother in 1982, and two of her brothers James B. Doornbos in 1993 and Franklin D. Doornbos in 2003.
