Jean Hayes Ohl of Lompoc died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the age of 84.
Jean was born June 3, 1925, in County Cork, Ireland to Denis and Mary Brennan. At the age of 22 she came to the United States to visit family members living in San Luis Obispo County. They convinced her to stay, and in 1949 she met and married Lompoc rancher Thomas Hayes.
A lifelong homemaker Jean raised five children. Her family was her life, and holidays and special occasions with her family always a highlight.
Thomas died in 1965. Ten years later Jean married Cecil Ohl. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling throughout the United States and Europe.
Jean was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and a past member of the Santa Barbara Cow Belles, now known as the Santa Barbara Cattle Women. Her entire married life was spent as a resident of the T.J. Hayes ranch in Lompoc.
Cecil preceded Jean in death in 2008. Her daughter Mary Jean Fox also preceded Jean in death in 1987. Jean is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Josie and Mitch Manos of Simi Valley, son Denis Hayes of Lompoc, son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Lisa Hayes of Lompoc, son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Terry Hayes of Lompoc, two sisters who live in England, and her grandchildren Marissa Luna and her husband Cameron, Alex Fox, and Tommy Hayes.
The visitation will be on Thursday, July 2, from 4-7 pm with the evening vigil starting at 5 pm in the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Father John Fitzgerald will celebrate the mass of Christian burial on Friday, July 3, at 10 am at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Mission Hills. Interment will follow in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
