Jean Middleton Ostaggi
October 15, 1916 - July 10, 2009
Jean Ostaggi joined her creator after a tragic fall at home with a subsequent short convalescence.
She was born in Oakland, California to Annie and Robert Middleton. Her father was a British sea captain whose home was in Glasgow, Scotland. Jean and her parents spent much of her first eight years of life at sea aboard his ship. After her father retired they moved to Petaluma, California where she attended school.
She married Eugene A. Ostaggi in 1941 and moved to Marin County, California. They raised two children, Robert and Janet and were active in their community. She was a multi-year volunteer at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ross, California and was involved with several service clubs in her area.
After her husband's death, Jean moved to Vandenberg Village in 2000, to be near her daughter, Janet. She had been an avid golfer and bridge player for many years and enjoyed an association with many new friends at Village Country Club.
She is survived by her children, Janet Towle of Lompoc and Robert Ostaggi of San Rafael. She has three grandsons, Daniel Coombs of Las Vegas, Nevada, Michael Coombs of Collierville, Tennessee, and Robert Coombs, deployed in Iraq, with the US Army, and six great grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date when family members can all be in attendance.
Remembrances can be sent to her favorite charity, Marin Agricultural Land Trust (an environmental farm land preservation charity; www.malt.org) at PO Box 809, Pt. Reyes Station, CA 94956.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
