Jean A. Ruehling of Lompoc died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the age of 65.
Jean was born on October 19, 1942 to Owen and Emiliana Adams in the Philippine Islands. After her education in the Philippines, which included college courses in clothing design, Jean immigrated to the United States. Formerly of Virginia she made her home in Lompoc in 1962.
A talented seamstress, Jean owned and operated Jean's Alteration in Lompoc for more than 40 years. With her dynamic personality many of Jean customers became her closest friends. Jean loved to knit, crochet and travel, especially when it involved sightseeing. A gracious hostess, many holiday family gatherings were held at her home.
Jean is survived by her husband of 25 years Randall Ruehling of Lompoc; her mother Emiliana Samortin of Lompoc; son and daughter-in-law Reginald and Becky Chastain of Lompoc; son James Chastain of Fresno; sisters Mae O'Reilly of Torrance, Diana Lira of Huntington Beach and Millie Galindo of Stockton; brother James Adams of San Diego; two grandchildren Andrew and Callie Tennock and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 19, 2008 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. directed by Reverend John Reil of Peace Lutheran Church. Cremation will be followed by private inurnment in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
