Obituary

We lost our sweet Janette January 14, 2016. She left behind and will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 69 years, Roy Learned, three children and their spouses, John Learned (Margot), Jane Delira (Victor) and Judy Meisinger (Russell). Janette was adored and is survived by eleven grandchildren (many who were with her at the end), five great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Born in Lompoc, CA on June 28, 1925 to Basque parents, Josef LaFourcade from France and Josefa LaFourcade from Spain, Janette was the youngest of four sisters. She led an active and happy life in Lompoc. In her youth she was surrounded by friends who remained her friends until the day she died. She was a member of the high school's Drum Chore which her children loved seeing pictures of her playing the drums. After the war she married her sweetheart, Roy Learned, also a Lompoc native. They started their family soon after. Once her children were old enough, Janette took a few jobs in town. She always made close connections and lifelong friendships with coworkers and employers. She and her friends started a group called The Sewing Club. They met monthly and while there wasn't much sewing going on there was lots of support for each other and camaraderie as young wives, mothers and women. In her early retirement years Janette spent time helping those older than herself. She befriended individuals at an Assisted Living Facility and would take them to appointments, on outings and led them in prayer of course always followed by refreshments of one of her baked goods.

The most important things in Janette's life were her faith, family and friends. She was a devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of La Purisima Catholic Church in Lompoc. She participated in the church choir and Altar Society. Her religion was the anchor in her life. She exhibited this in how she handled life's struggles and hardships. Janette was very proud of her family and taught them to be close, work together, love and forgive one another through life's trials and obstacles. How Janette handled herself through life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and friend was a true testament of her strong beliefs and faith. She was kind, loving and fair to all she met.

Janette is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Elissa, Margarita and Lucille and her dear son Tommy. While we are so sadden by her passing and are going to sorely miss her, we rejoice that she is joining her Lord and family.

The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 22, at 10 am at La Purisima Catholic Church. The interment will follow in the Lompoc Cemetery.

The funeral arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
