Memorial services for Jerome L. "Jerry" Newton, 72, of Lompoc, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev.
David Horning officiating. Private burial will be at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
Jerry died on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at his home in Lompoc of a rare form of multiple myeloma. Jerry was born June 24, 1934 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Clyde and Bernice St.Clair Newton. He graduated from Conrad, Iowa high
school, Coe College and received a MBA from Indiana University. He served twenty-four years in the United States Air Force in eight states plus Germany, England, and Turkey. Lt. Col. Newton retired from Vandenberg AFB in 1981 and then worked at Santa Barbara Farms and Ocean View Flowers until
his sudden and short illness.
Jerry loved Lompoc and volunteered at many community events. He had been involved many years with fund raising for the
Lompoc Hospital Foundation. He was currently President of the North Santa Barbara County Habitat for Humanity and a vital member of the Lompoc First
United Methodist Church. Jerry liked to see the world and saw much of it. With a recent trip to Antarctica, he had been to all seven continents. He leaves to mourn Phyllis, his wife of fifty years; two daughters, Jan Little
of Georgia and Kathleen Ummel (Steve) of Carlsbad; grandsons, Chad and Jake Ummel; and brother, Roger of Colorado plus an extended family of relatives
