Jo Ann Evans of Lompoc passed away peacefully on Friday April 24, 2015 with her son Mark E. Evans and daughter-in-law Lisa Evans by her side. Jo Ann was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Claude and Josephine Sanders. Her family came to Lompoc in 1959 when her father began work at Vandenberg AFB, then known as Camp Cooke. She graduated from Lompoc High School and Allan Hancock College. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Scholarship Society. Jo Ann married Edward L. Evans on December 11, 1971.

Despite many years of complicated health issues, she devoted her life to helping others. Jo Ann was the caretaker for her mother for many years, as well as assisting many elderly by driving them to appointments and feeding the homeless.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Mark and Lisa Evans of Santa Maria, brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Sheila Sanders of Brentwood, CA, and sister and brother-in-law Mary and Worth Lundin of Grass Valley, CA. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, parents Claude and Josephine Sanders and sister-in-law Melinda Sanders Tidwell.

Visitation will be Monday May 4, 2015 from 4 – 8 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary with a vigil at 6 pm. Funeral mass will be on Tuesday May 5, 2015 at 10 am at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with burial at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery following the mass.
