Jody Paul Spiese

Known to his grandchildren as "PoPo"

Jody P. Spiese passed away peacefully at home, Saturday, October 10, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 6, 1950 in York, Pennsylvania to Paul and Esther Spiese.

Jody graduated from Savanna High School in Anaheim, CA in 1968. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps June 26, 1968 following in his dad's footsteps. He was honorably discharged in August of 1968 due to injury.

Jody decided to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a Mortician. He graduated from Cypress College July 28, 1982 earning his license for embalming. He later became a licensed funeral director. In his 25 years working in the Mortuary business he worked for various mortuaries including Starbuck-Lind Mortuary, where he worked for over 12 years.

In his down time, Jody enjoyed fishing and hunting with his daughter, grandchildren, son-in-law Shawn and family friend Mark Powers. He was also an avid reader, enjoyed spending time and dancing with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rhonda Spiese, daughter Wendy (Shawn) Mello, granddaughter's Sarina and MaKayla Mello, grandson Shane Mello (all from Lompoc), son Gary Spiese of Santa Barbara, CA, and sister Paula (Larry) Spiese of Oakland, CA. He is also survived by his loving dogs Lucky, Layla, and Luna. Jody is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Esther Spiese and his brother George W. Spiese.

There will be a private family memorial service (celebration of life) at a later date, at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery with military honors. There will be a private burial at a later date, in Mount Rose Cemetery in York, Pennsylvania.

Arrangements are under the directors of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. The family would like to thank Dr. John M. Sawyer and medical assistant, Jeanette Gaitan for the wonderful care they gave to him. As well as, Dr. Yostos of Lompoc Hospital, and Sarah from Central Coast Health.
