Obituary

John "Jack" Oshman of Lompoc, CA died peacefully at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital on November 7, 2014 following complications from a fall. He was 95.

Jack was born on August 21, 1919 in Freeland, PA to his parents, William and Margaret Oshman. He graduated from Freeland High School and enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in 1937. He served in the Army Air Corps and Air Force for 23 years. A veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, he worked on the flight line as an aircraft mechanic and maintenance supervisor.

While stationed at Lincoln AFB, he met and married Enid Cleveland in 1957 and had a son, Brad. The Oshmans moved to Lompoc in 1965, where Jack worked as manager at the Vandenberg AFB Bowling Lanes. He retired in 1981.

Jack loved fishing, but even more, he loved sharing his catch with neighbors and friends. And bowling was both his business and his pastime. As a member of the Lincoln AFB all-star team, he bowled against some of the legendary pro teams of the 1950s and 1960s.

He is survived by three children from his first marriage to Rosalie Lawrence: daughter Roseanne Gaddala of Newark, NJ; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Frank Bobrowicz of Los Alamos, NM; and daughter, Mary Jane Pohero of Union, NJ. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Debbie Oshman of San Ramon, CA; plus 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Enid; and all six of his brothers and sisters.

A viewing will take place at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary in Lompoc on Wednesday, November 12 from 4 to 8pm. Memorial services will be held at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary at 1:00pm on Thursday, November 13, with the burial immediately following at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jack's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Catholic Charities of Lompoc.
